This project started as a simple request. I was asked to add the name of a new staff member to the existing phone directory card. The phone directory card is a small laminated card affixed to each office phone or kept nearby for easy access.
After opening the document and typing in the new person’s name, I noticed one of the phone numbers needed to be corrected. That’s when it became a project.
I meticulously re-formatted the table to highlight key information, included community partner details, verified and updated all phone numbers, and added our most frequently used services. As all staff members are expected to answer the phone, and as any phone call might be a client in crisis, it is imperative that everyone have quick access to phone numbers.
After gathering feedback on the new design from coworkers, I added our addresses and swapped out one community partner for a different one. Overall, this was a successful upgrade, with one coworker commenting that they could now use their phone without hurting their eyes.
